Get Ready For Speedy Tracks




Hyderabad Metro Rail, new face of Hyderabad.

We Hyderabadis got one more reason to celebrate.

Recently the celebration was for opening of New Hyderabad International Airport at Shamshabad, now it’s for a Metro Rail approval.

The Centre has given in-principal approval to Hyderabad Metro Rail, one of the largest projects of its kind in the world and the country’s first two-track elevated city transit system to be developed under the public-private participation model.

Work on the Rs. 9696-crore project will begin in August. Tenders are to be called by June and finalized in July. The project will be completed four years from its grounding.

Announcing the approval for the project, an elated Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, said, "This is a day to remember in the history of Andhra Pradesh." He thanked the UPA chairperson, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and other Union ministers connected with the project for sanctioning the undertaking.

The Metro will run for 63 km and will rest on massive concrete pillars along the central median of the roads. There will be stations at every kilometre.


Routes

The all-AC Hyderabad Metro Rail will run on three routes:

Line 1:
From Miyapur to Chaitanya Puri (28 km) via JNTU College, KPBH Colony, Kukatpally, Balanagar, Moosapet, Bharat Nagar, Erragada, ESI Hospital, S.R.Nagar, Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Erra Manzil, Khairatabad, Sachivalayam, Vidhan Sabha, Nampally, Gandhi Bhawan, Medical College, Malakpet, New Market, Mossaram Bagh and Dilsukhnagar.

Line 2:
From Jubilee Bus stand to Falaknuma (14 km) via JBS station, Secunderabad, Gandhi Hospital, Ram Nagar, Ashoka Nagar, Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Sultan Bazar, Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Shali Banda, Shamsheergunj and Jungametta.

Line 3:
From Habsiguda to Shilparamam (21 km) via Tarnaka, Lalaguda, Mettugada, Secunderabad, Parade grounds, Paradise, Rasoolpura, Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, Ameerpet, Madhura Nagar, Yousufguda, Jubilee check post, Paddamma temple, Madhapur and Hitech City.






Fares for the Metro Rail have been pegged between Rs. 8 and Rs. 19. The average fare will be Rs. 12.

The project cost, which was earlier Rs. 8,482, has gone up Rs. 1,214 crore due to increase in length.

Metro Rail, with a frequency of three to five minutes during peak hours, is expected to carry about 16.95 lakh passengers per day by 2012 and 24.58 lakh passengers by 2022. All stations will have AC minibus services to nearby colonies, business establishments and other popular places.

Smart card based automatic ticketing and gate systems for passengers will also be provided.
